Northern Sierra Culture  (SNP-1)

Learn about indigenous and afro-ecuadorian culture and their expression in music, dance, arts and spirituality.

We begin our journey with a tour of indigenous villages, handicrafts workshops and the famous handicrafts market of Otavalo before we go to our accommodation. The following day (2) we will learn about the topics of health and spirituality, seeing demonstrations by a local shaman and an indigenous midwife, as well as an ethno-botanical garden. Volunteering

We offer volunteer programmes in several fields like education, conservation, micro-enterprises, fair trade, and others in mostly rural areas of Imbabura Province in Northern Ecuador.

Our long term volunteer programme is aimed at individuals and small groups who have a minimum of 15 days at their disposal, preferably one month or more. Placement of volunteers is according to their interests, work experience and demand by our partner organisations.

Our short term volunteer programme is designed for larger groups who want to take part in a traditional minga, i.e. traditional communal work with participation of the whole community, addressing a certain problem that the community is facing. Those programs have a minimum duration of 2 days and can be designed according to the interests and professional skills of each group.

All programmes include accommodation with a local family in a rural community, full board, an introduction and full training for your volunteer work, and a certificate of your participation at the end of the programme.
